Is your skin ready for the Harsh Summer?
Juices and ice-creams
have replaced hot beverages and woolens and jackets have made way for cotton
clothes and light fabrics like linen. Summer has finally arrived and it has
paved way for a whole lot of skin problems. From acne to breakouts and what
not, your skin just doesn’t listen to you. Add to it the sweltering heat and
your oily skin is bound to get sticky and irritating. So what do you do to make
your skin summer ready?
Our experts from Dr.
Kartik’s slimming center have come up with a dozen ways to help you protect
your skin from the summer heat.
Read on to find out.
1. Apply sunscreen
The most common advice
you might be getting during summers obviously includes lathering sunscreen on
all the exposed parts of your body. With summers already here, make sunscreen a
part of your daily routine. They protect your skin from sun’s harmful
ultra-violet radiations and prevent sunburn and rashes. In addition to this,
sunscreens protect you from tanning, a problem, very common when you stay out
for longer hours.
Our dermatologists
recommend using a gel-based sunscreen if you have an oily skin and matte-finish
sunscreen lotion for dry skin.
2. Keep your skin hydrated
The harsh sun
dehydrates your skin making it look dull and lifeless. Drink plenty of water,
around 10-12 glasses a day to keep your skin hydrated. Eat fruits that have a
greater percentage of water like water-melon and musk-melons. Fluids remove
toxins from your body and give your skin a natural, ever-lasting glow.
3. Consume Vitamin C
Start Adding vitamin C
to your diet for a healthy-looking, glowing skin. Include citrusy fruits like
lemons, oranges, and grapes in your diet. Vitamin C has antioxidant properties
and they are known to prevent and treat UVA and UVB induced photodamage. For
instant protection, apply some vitamin C mist or serum before going out in the
sun.
4. Wear breathable fabrics
Ditch heavy fabrics
like chiffon, nylon, silk and make way for breathable fabrics like light cotton
and linen. Heavy fabrics and tight clothes can cause sweating and irritation
making your skin itchy. Prolonged use of such fabrics in summer can lead to
rashes and skin infections.
5. Use Aloe vera
Apply Aloe vera gel to
soothe your skin from sunburn and rash. Aloe vera contains antioxidants that
cool your skin and nourishes it. The healing properties of Aloe vera reduce
skin inflammation and effectively heal chronic skin problems like acne and
rash. It also works as a moisturizer and softens skin without clogging pores
and hydrates the skin without leaving on a greasy film. Just take some aloe
vera juice on your hands and rub it on your face and parts where your skin is
broken and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Then wash your face with cold
water to get glowing skin in minutes.
6. Eat light
Eating heavy food
loaded with oil and calories can make you feel sluggish and bloated all the
time. It also creates a havoc on your skin resulting in breakouts and acne.
Keep away from sugary drinks that are loaded with calories. Include fresh
vegetables and fruits in your diet particularly seasonal varieties to keep
yourself hydrated.
7. Exfoliate
Last but not the least,
exfoliate your skin twice a week with a good exfoliator to remove dead skin
cells. It also helps to improve blood circulation. Exfoliating your skin at
regular intervals allows it to absorb the moisturizing products better.
